How difficult is the surf in Morocco?
Morocco is one of the world’s best all-level surf destinations. Thanks to its long coastline and consistent Atlantic swells, you’ll find waves suitable for complete beginners, progressing intermediates, and experienced surfers looking for powerful point breaks.
To start, the Taghazout–Tamraght–Agadir area is famous for its friendly beach breaks, which are ideal for total beginners. Spots like Panorama, KM11 or Devil’s Rock offer soft, rolling waves that help you build confidence quickly. From there, you can naturally progress to easier point breaks, especially Imsouane, which is known for its long, smooth, forgiving right-hand wave. Surf schools love this spot because you can ride one wave for almost a minute, making progression much faster.
For advanced surfers, Morocco becomes a completely different playground. Iconic spots like Anchor Point, Killer Point, and La Source offer long, powerful right-handers that can hold serious size. They are world-class waves during a solid winter swell, especially when the lines wrap perfectly around the point.
However, the season matters a lot when it comes to how difficult the surf gets.
- Winter (December–February) brings the biggest swells and the most powerful surf. This season is fantastic for advanced surfers chasing long, clean walls and barrels.
- Spring (March–May) is much more mellow. It’s the perfect period for beginners and intermediates because the waves are smaller, cleaner, and more consistent.
- Summer (June–August) is windy and often small, but complete beginners actually enjoy these conditions. The whitewash is ideal for learning the basics, and the lineups are far less crowded.
- Autumn (September–November) is a great shoulder season — warm weather, good swells, and not too heavy.
